Nov. 22, 2008 – Canton, OH.

a shortened day due to illness….

I pulled over much earlier than anticipated last night due to the blowing snow.  Much like the night prior to last night, visibility was nearing zero and I didn’t think I was safe to continue.

I have a tendency to travel “the path less taken” when it still falls under the “somewhat practical” category.  I opted against the Ohio Turnpike going from Toledo to Cleveland. I took the scenic state road that hugged Lake Erie instead.

The early parts of the back road were nice, but then darkness fell and the snow started blowing.  With me still feeling sick and now losing the ability to see clearly,  I pulled in for the night.

I woke up the next morning to see the view that had eluded me the night before, due to darkness.  The town of Port Clinton, Ohio sounds as if it is quite the tourist spot in the summers, but the winters prove to be quite different. It was quiet and uninhabited, which made for some very low hotel rates if they weren’t closed for the season.

The view of a very cold Lake Erie was nice, but I couldn’t enjoy it fully because I don’t own a space heater or a snowmobile suit, plus I had to be in Canton by noon.  I bypassed Cleveland to make sure I arrived on time to my interview.  I figured I could make the trip 50 miles back to Cleveland later that day.

After coughing my way through a nasally conversation with the reporter from Canton, it was time for us to part ways.

I am now as sick as I have been this entire time. There is definitely a fever going on and I can’t hardly breathe.  It’s around 1:00pm and I feel like a truck ran over me.  I ache, I’m freezing, and I can’t breathe.  The only thing I want to do is sleep.  I ended up getting a hotel room in the early afternoon and curled up under the covers for the rest of the day and night..

I took only a couple of pictures today, which were this morning.  I probably should have taken a few pictures of the bed because that’s where I spent 15 consecutive hours.

Oh well, we all get sick and it will pass.
